Things I love include...
seeing Mike Brown demonstrate how to use a thighmaster to a group of middle school students at church.

Shouldn't they be memorizing the Shorter Catechism or something?

Gary Shavey shared about missional hip-hop in his most recent post on the Resurgence blog. This post made me think about a hip-hop group I was introduced to several months ago called Christcentric. Their music is what you could call "uber-reformed." Some of the songs in their catalog include titles like Reformation, Totally Depraved, Benediction, Mighty Fortress, and Sufficiency. I was really skeptical when I first heard of them but they are actually pretty stinkin' good. Check out the website at www.christcentric.net and listen to the song Reformation. Anyone who raps about John Huss is okay in my book.

Bryan Lopina has an interesting post on his blog concerning Jerome Bettis and self-justification. There is a lot of wisdom in the last two paragraphs.
The bottom line is that repentance is not about giving good reasons for why I sinned, but taking my sin to the foot of the cross and leaving it there. I sin because I have a wicked and deceitful heart that longs to worship myself besides my Creator. It wasn't because I didn't get enough sleep, or I was just in a bad mood ... those things can contribute, but if you peel away the layers and the smoke screens, what it comes down to is that I am putting myself above all else.

Welcome back. I've tried numerous times to keep up a blog with no success at all. I never want to take the time to update it myself. So what I've decided to do is occasionally write my own thoughts but consistently link to other posts and links that I find interesting. I will try to link to a lot of posts from people I know and especially from people who are involved in the The Oaks.
Come check out the The Oaks Community Church's first service on September 16th at the Sorg Opera House in Middletown, Ohio.
